Downtown Development

Steven VanTol
DDA Director
The mission of the City of Auburn Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is to create and implement development plans, provide physical improvements to the District, promote economic growth and to correct and prevent deterioration in the DDA District thereby establishing a downtown that is healthy, viable and economically sound for the future. It was created by Michigan Act 197 of 1975.

Check out the new “Welcome to Auburn” sign installed on the corner of Garfield and Midland.

The Auburn Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has financed the construction of the welcome sign, street lights and landscaping for a more modern urban “downtown” design. The DDA is funded through Tax-Increment Financing (TIF). This means that taxes paid within the DDA District are re-invested in the district annually. The DDA Board of Directors includes business owners, property owners, residents and liaison members for the City Commission.
